Sacred Heart Cathedral wrestling earned a confidence-building league victory on Tuesday night, sweeping Valley Christian across all levels in an impressive showing.
The varsity boys delivered a hard-fought 38–29 win, highlighted by dominant performances throughout the lineup. Pins from
Kian Leon Guerrero,
Braden Loya, and
Lazaro Ruiz set the tone, while
YahShuah Tuliao added a technical fall to swing critical points in SHC's favor. Decision victories by
Eli Chommanard,
Lamberto Lara, and freshman
Nathaniel Sampior-Davis sealed the team win, showcasing both experience and emerging talent. The result moved the varsity boys to 1–2 in WCAL competition and 4–5 overall.
The varsity girls posted a 36–0 shutout, earning their first league win of the season. Sophomore
Leylakay Melendez ignited the team with a pin, and the varsity girls now stand at 2–3 overall.
At the sub-varsity level, the frosh boys earned an 18–4 victory, led by a pin from
Denis Porter, while the JV boys secured a 6–0 win via forfeits, completing a perfect night for Sacred Heart Cathedral wrestling.
The wins marked the first WCAL victories of the season across all levels. Valley Christian, a strong and well-coached program, provided a meaningful test that SHC met with poise.
"Valley is a very good team, and I'm proud of our kids for meeting the challenge with focus and positive energy," Head Coach James Woods shared. "We'll need to continue this momentum into Thursday's Senior Night against Serra and Notre Dame Belmont."
With confidence building and the postseason picture beginning to take shape, Sacred Heart Cathedral wrestling appears to be finding its stride at the right time.
