The Sacred Heart Cathedral Fightin' Irish took on the Riordan Crusaders in the annual Stanfel Cup game on October 3. The Crusaders scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, but SHC did not let those go unanswered - going for it on fourth down, Chase Jenkins '27 broke the goal line giving the Irish their first touchdown. In the second quarter, Kiran Tate Day '27 and James Elliott '26 both sacked the Riordan quarterback for a Crusader loss. Shortly after, Zion Secrease '27 broke up a Riordan pass in the end zone which forced a turnover in favor of the Irish.
Coming back from halftime, Chase Jenkins caught the pass by Michael Sargent '26 in no coverage and ran the ball into the endzone for an SHC touchdown. A few minutes later, Isaiah Glover '28 returned the Crusader kickoff to the Riordan ten yard line, setting up SHC for a touchdown a few plays later. Feeling confident after their two successful two-point conversions last week against the Bellarmine Bells, the Irish decided to try it again - and they succeeded, making the score 22-49. In the final quarter, SHC finished strong scoring a touchdown and two-point conversion to end the game 30-56.
SHC continues WCAL play this Saturday at 1pm when they host the Junipero Serra Padres at San Francisco City College.
