It was another outstanding week for the Fightin' Irish, highlighted by record-breaking performances on the track, a WCAL sweep on the baseball diamond, and history-making swims at CCS.
The SHC track & field team turned in an impressive performance at the WCAL Finals last Friday, with multiple athletes earning spots in the upcoming CCS Championships. Ava Lindner '28, Annalee Nist '28, and William Lofberg '28 all qualified individually, while the Girls 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also advanced to CCS competition. The Girls 4x800 relay squad had already secured qualification earlier in the season.
Ava Lindner continued her sensational season by improving her own school record in the 200 meters before setting another new school record in the 400 meters with a winning time of 55.65 seconds. Lindner defended her WCAL title in the event and qualified for CCS in four total events, cementing herself as one of the top performers in the section.
On the baseball field, the Fightin' Irish varsity squad completed an impressive season sweep over Mitty with two key league victories last week.
In the first matchup, senior Cooper Rogers Lewis '26 delivered a dominant outing on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings while striking out six. The Irish offense was fueled by seniors Chasin Deninger '26 and Max Nylander '26, who combined for five hits in an emphatic 8-2 victory.
The Irish followed that performance with another win on Friday at West Sunset. Given a three-run lead early, Jacob Vines '26 took control from there, helping lead SHC to a 3-1 win over the Monarchs. The Irish now wrap up league play this week against Riordan, with today's game featuring a pregame Senior Day celebration before first pitch at 3:30 p.m.
The week also featured standout performances in the pool in CCS competition. The Girls Varsity 200 Medley Relay placed 29th overall with a time of 1:57.67, while the Girls Varsity 400 Free Relay broke the SHC school record with a time of 3:51.03, finishing 27th overall. Both relay teams were powered by the same core four swimmers: Ryland Pugh '28, Isabella Devlin '27, Berlyn Ring '27, and Maggie Crehan '27.
For their record-setting performance and outstanding CCS showing, the relay quartet has earned this week's SHC Athlete of the Week honors.
Go Irish!
