The SHC Track & Field team had a successful WCAL Championships. The Irish had WCAL Champions in six events, qualified for the Central Coast Section (CCS) Championships in thirteen events, set one WCAL Championship Meet record, and established four new school records.
Individually, frosh
Ava Lindner '28 and senior
Jasaun Mabrey '25, had huge performances. Lindner, in her first season ever of running track, won the Varsity Girls 400 meters in a time of 56.79. That mark ranks her 5
th overall in the CCS and the 6
th fastest frosh in the entire state of California. Lindner also ran legs on the 4X100 (new school record) and 4X400 relay teams, both of which qualified for CCS. On the opposite end of the spectrum, experience-wise, Mabrey was competing in his fourth and final WCAL Championships. Mabrey had already qualified for CCS by placing 3
rd in the long jump (22 feet, 2 inches) and running the lead-off leg on the 4X100 relay that ran 42.42 (third fastest time in school history, all run this season) but he saved his best leap for last. On his final attempt in the triple jump Mabrey went 46 feet, 3 inches to beat the previous school record by one inch. Mabrey would end up 2
nd in the triple jump and like Lindner, will compete in three events at CCS next week.
