The Sacred Heart Cathedral softball team secured an exciting and hard-fought victory over St. Ignatius on Friday, triumphing 9-8 after a dramatic late-game surge. 

The Irish opened the scoring early in the first inning with a steal of home and added to their momentum in the third inning, thanks to Kaylen Edora '27 timely ground out and Wanda Wilson '25, each driving in a run to build their lead.

The Wildcats answered in the fourth scoring 7 runs on 5 hits and the Irish found themselves having to battle back from a 7-3 deficit.   

The Irish offense racked up 11 hits with Edora and Arden Walsh '25 each recording three hits. Walsh anchored the middle of the order, driving in two critical runs and finishing 3-for-4 at the plate. Francesca Moralejo '27 and Adriana Giomi '25 also delivered multiple hits, contributing to the team's offense.

Patient at the plate, the Irish drew five walks, with Madison Barlesi '28 and Wilson earning two free passes each. Wilson and Adriana Giomi showcased their speed and instincts with multiple stolen bases, and the team amassed seven steals total. 

The defense also stepped up in key moments, turning a double play to keep momentum on their side. On the mound, Edora pitched six and two-thirds innings and allowing nine hits and seven runs. Giomi delivered in the clutch, entering with two outs and the bases loaded to record the save, sealing a memorable comeback team victory.

The Irish followed the win with a non-league victory on the road over El Camino on Monday.  They take on defending NorCal Champion St. Francis on the road today.
