The SHC boys tennis team posted their first league win this season with a 4-3 victory over Archbishop Riordan on Friday out at Golden Gate Park's Goldman Center.  Head coach Andy Liang was pleased with  team's effort.

"Everyone has put in a lot of hard work and we are competing against every opponent. The team is focused and giving their best in every match."

In one of the longest first sets that Coach Liang has seen, Milo Pearsall-Weber '27 battled hard at the single #2 spot without capturing a game in set one.  His grit and determination in set two resulted in him coming back from being down 0-3, and ultimately giving up the second set 5-7.  

Rowan Davin '27 won a comfortable first set in singles #3 action, taking the first set 6-1.  A nerve-wracking second set followed but Davin persisted to capture a 7-5 second set win. 

In doubles #2, Liam Schreiner '26 and James Kitaguchi '26 were firing on all all gears for a commanding Irish win 6-0, 6-1. Liang said that Kitaguchi is proving to be a very good doubles specialist.

Good communication from the sophomore pairing of Hayden Xie and Lucas Kwan in doubles #3 action resulted in a solid win 6-1, 6-3.

Coach Liang is happy with the growth he's seen over the course of the season pointing to "improved ability to adapt to different situations, on court decision making and overall tennis skills."

The Irish wrap up the regular season next week with three league contests.  They'll face Riordan again on Tuesday on the road at Balboa Park, celebrate senior day on Wednesday at the Goldman Center against St. Ignatius, and host Valley Christian on Friday at the Goldman Center.
