Sacred Heart Cathedral picked up the 4-3 win against International High School on Friday, March 8 in a tight battle. Both squads were evenly matched, but the Irish No. 4 singles player Milo Pearsall-Weber '27 picked up the clinching 6-2, 6-0 win to give the overall victory to the Irish.  

The Irish's No. 2 singles player Rowan Davin '27 and No. 3 singles Aidan Roland '25 fought hard to get wins for SHC. In doubles, SHC also performed well gaining wins from their No. 3 duo, Mathew Howard '26 and Evan Lew '25 by a score of 6-4,6-4.

"I'm really proud of how our players battled for every point and never gave up," head coach Andy Liang said praising the efforts of all of his players. "Our #1 doubles team was a great example of how tough our team played regardless of the outcome."

Despite the match ending in a defeat, the day was highlighted by the last match to finish which featured SHC's No. 1 doubles partnership of Benji Shoemaker '25 and James Kitaguchi '26.

The duo were locked into battle that began with them dropping the first set 0-6, and were down in the second before fighting all the way back to reach the tiebreak. Unsurprisingly, the tiebreak was also neck and neck until Shoemaker hit a beautiful lob to seal the second set 9-7 for the Irish. The whole Irish squad cheering them on in the third set couldn't push them to the victory and the boy's lost 4-10.

The Irish are on the road today to face Serra at College of San Mateo at 3:30pm.
