The SHC Boys Soccer team stayed patient in a hard fought battle against Archbishop Riordan on Saturday at Crocker Amazon. With contributions from the entire lineup, their persistence paid off with a 2-0 victory over the Crusaders. Junior goalkeeper
Sebastian Bradshaw and the Irish defense denied several attempts and at the end of the first half, the match remained scoreless.
The first goal of the game came in the second half when SHC senior
Camilo Soto-Knight put in a header over the keeper's head. Riordan ramped up their offense, both teams continued to battle, and the Irish defense stepped up with several saves from keeper
Hugo Puiggali.
With under 10 minutes to play, the Crusaders committed a foul inside the box and
Eoin McLoughlin scored on the penalty kick to give the Irish some breathing room.
Coach Nino was pleased with the progress he saw, "The team is building confidence and starting to trust in the hard work they have put in."
The win puts the Irish at 3-6-4 and still within striking distance for a postseason berth.
Good luck, team. Go Irish!
