Sacred Heart Cathedral's boys and girls volleyball teams were awarded the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2024-25 school year.

The girls team also received the additional distinction of AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll, meaning the Irish finished in the top 20% of GPAs nationally by division.

SHC head girls volleyball coach Symone Mackiewicz was pleased with the recognition for her program and stresses that her athletes bring the same dedication to both their on and off court duties.

"This recognition shows us coaches that our student athletes take their time in the classroom just as serious as their time on the court," Mackiewicz said. "Our student athletes are what makes our program successful and shows that having the balance is doable with a little hard work."

With the 2025-26 season off to a start, Mackiewicz and the Irish are looking for another successful season on and off the court.
