Sacred Heart Cathedral girls lacrosse went 2-1 this past week, winning against Notre Dame San Jose 12-11 in an overtime thriller on Friday before falling 11-2 to Lick-Wilmerding on Tuesday and coming back with the win over Aragon 9-3 on Wednesday.
Currently ranked as a top-50 team in California, SHC traveled to San Jose to take on Notre Dame for their second league game of the season. It wasn't easy sledding for the Irish who went into halftime down 4-7, but during the break head coach Skylar Simpson and her team improved their strategy.
Despite still being down 7-10 at the end of the third quarter, the Irish began to find their rhythm towards the end of the quarter. The fourth quarter comeback was led by the SHC defense and their goalie,
Ameera Demetri '25, who shut down the NDSJ attack only allowing one goal the entire fourth quarter.
Bella Patnode '25Â tied the game with only a few minutes in the fourth quarter which was followed by a
Jasi Mann '24 goal that gave the Irish their first lead of the game. NDSJ responded to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Once again Demetri came up big, making a huge save that gave SHC possession leading to a
Carly Cohen '24Â 8-meter penalty shot which sealed the win for the Irish.
Sacred Heart Cathedral will now have a few days off before playing their third league game of the season against Castilleja on March 20.
Go Irish!
