On Monday, April 17, members of the girls lacrosse program spent the morning at the SF-Marin Food Bank's Illinois Warehouse preparing bags of groceries for families facing food insecurity across the Bay Area. The Illinois Warehouse alone packages over 1,800 grocery bags daily. This was the team's second service project this season; last month the Varsity girls volunteered at the Bayview Senior Center to raise awareness for colorectal cancer and its impacts on communities.
The team worked in stations to package grocery bags that will be sent directly to community centers and local families. The individual bags contained ingredients such as eggs, green onions, cabbages, canned goods and fruits. By the end of the morning the girls prepared 1,115 packages which equates to 22,300 pounds of food. As the season comes to an end, the girls enjoyed this opportunity to bond as a team and give back to the local community.
The varsity team enjoyed celebrating its nine seniors on Wednesday for Senior Day before their match up against Castilleja School. Despite taking the loss, the team played hard until the last second and improved upon their performance against Castilleja from earlier in the season.Â
