Both SHC lacrosse teams opened their 2024 seasons with wins against Urban. The girls varsity squad took down the Blues 13-9 at Lang Field while the boys team won 11-0.
Attacker Jasi Mann '24 led the way for the Irish with 4 goals, while attacker Madison Yeung '24 added 3 goals as did midfielder Malea Smith '24. In her varsity debut, Ameera Demetri '25 recorded 5 saves.
The story of the game was the midfielders. With a game back and forth, every possession was valued and the midfield group work tirelessly to win every draw control. Smith and Bella Patnode '25 led the team in this department.
Head coach Skylar Simpson was pleased with what she saw from her team in their first game. "I was impressed with the way we played tonight," Simpson said. "I'm looking forward to a season of growth and success starting with our league opener in on Friday."
The Sacred Heart Cathedral varsity boys squad dominated the Urban Blues 11-0 in their season opener.
The Irish goalie, Shane Ryan '25, who only joined SHC lacrosse for the first time this season saved 10 shots in his debut. Ryan did all this with the sun glaring down in his eyes and shutout the Blues.Â
Midfielder Jackson Irons '24 led the scoring with a hat trick in the game.
The girls squad will be back in action this Tuesday, February 27, at Bentley High School in Lafayette while the boys team will face Stuart Hall this Friday March 1 at Lang Field.
