The Irish opened postseason play against Westmoor High School on Tuesday, February 20, in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs. The game was the quarterfinal matchup where the 3-seeded Irish defeated the 11-seeded Rams 68-38 on their home court.
In the effort, with his first shot of the game, senior Fedrick Pernell scored his 1000th career point for the Irish. Pernell was presented with a commemorative ball in a brief mid-game ceremony. Pernell ended the lopsided victory with 22 points on 56% shooting to lead the Irish's offensive onslaught.
Seniors Zemaury Erfe and Jonah Goorin scored 11 points each, with Goorin also racking up nine rebounds. Junior Mykel Patton was a playmaker in the game with seven assists and three steals.
Sacred Heart Cathedral will be back on the court on Thursday, February 22, in the semifinals of the 2024 CIF Central Coast Section Boys' Basketball Championships. The No. 3 Irish will take on the seventh-ranked Burlingame Panthers at Gunn High School in Palo Alto at 7pm.
