The SHC boys basketball team captured the Division III CCS championship with a 49-48 nail-biting win over Santa Cruz on Saturday. The title marks the second straight CCS Championship for the program, following their CCS Open Division title in 2023.  Â
The win puts the Irish in the CIF Division II State Tournament as the #15 seed who will face #2 Oakland Tech in the first round.
Guard
Fedrick Pernell '24 scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the way for the Irish. Fellow senior
Jonah Goorin added 11 points and 5 boards. In a largely defensive game, with neither team eclipsing 50 points, senior
Zemaury Erfe led SHC with 3 steals.Â
Pernell received the Sportsmanship Award for the CCS Championships and will look to propel the Irish to an upset win against Oakland Tech with his leadership.
The Irish's first round matchup takes place Tuesday, February 27, at 7pm at Oakland Tech.Â
