Sacred Heart Cathedral girls soccer defeated Presentation 3-0 in league play on Wednesday on a
Lauren O'Donnell header and a
Lucy Rios brace. The first goal was converted by O'Donnell on a Briana Kyne corner kick placed perfectly in front of the goal. O'Donnell snuck in, got up in the air and headed the ball into the right side of the net. Goals two and three followed shortly after by Rios, again on a corner and the third on a breakaway. Goalkeeper
Ari Beddoes made several saves to keep the Panthers scoreless and contributions were made by the entire Irish lineup.
Coach Wilson was pleased with the team's performance. "We have talked all season about the importance of free kicks and being aggressive in the final third. To see it all come together today was rewarding. Hopefully it serves as positive reinforcement in our final three games of league play."
The win marks the second meeting of the two teams in West Catholic Athletic League play. The first contest took place at Presentation on Saturday, January 7, and resulted in a 0-0 tie, making this win that much more satisfying.
The Irish have won their last two WCAL matchups, securing the win Valley Christian this past Saturday 2-0. Both goals in the game were second half goals, the first by
Ava MacNamara-Pittler and and followed up by Briana Kyne.
Congratulations, Irish!
