Congratulations to the Cross Country team for a terrific meet at the WCAL Championships at Crystal Springs on Wednesday, November 5.
Takeo Malong's 2nd place finish helped the Frosh Boys take 3
rd place. The JV Boys were a solid 2nd place, the highest finish in this division in program history.
The JV Girls took 2nd place on Wednesday, but thanks to their earlier WCAL wins at Polo Fields and Baylands, they captured a WCAL JV Girls Co-Championship.
Both the Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls ran fast times to easily qualify for next week's CCS Championship Meet.
Sean Kummer '26 led the Varsity Boys with a 9
th place finish in 15:41 (5
th fastest in school history). Sophomore
Oran Brick '28 had a huge breakthrough race placing 25
th overall and second on the SHC team in a :42 PR of 16:28. These fast times led to a Top 5 team time of 82:02 (5
th fastest in school history). This marked the first time in program history that all seven WCAL varsity boys teams broke 17 minutes in the same race on the same day.
The Varsity Girls were led by
Veronica Panina '26 with a 10
th place finish in 19:25. Sophomore
Annalisa Covucci '28 also had a breakthrough race placing 12
th overall and second on the SHC team in a 1:23 PR of 19:26. These fast times led to a Top 5 team time of 99:20 (8
th fastest in school history).
"We had an amazingly successful WCAL Championship Meet," said SHC head coach Andy Chan. "The strength of this team is our depth. We are strong not just in Varsity but also JV. That speaks volumes to the work ethic of the entire program and I could not be more pleased."
Both the Boys and Girls teams will take a shot at qualifying for the State Meet at the CCS Championships on Saturday, November 15, back at Crystal Springs. The Irish will be looking to qualify both teams to State for the third year in a row.
