Sacred Heart Cathedral Varsity baseball team took two games against the Riordan Crusaders last week and sit fourth in the WCAL with a 4-3 record.
Last Monday's win against the Crusaders was a complete game from the Irish who took the game 12-0. Starting pitcher
Zach Stallworth '26 went six strong innings only giving up three hits while striking out five batters.
Offensively, the Irish were led by
Jack Ruegg '24 and
Tate Medicoff '24 who drove in three runs a piece. One of Medicoff's hits was a home run which was his eighth of the season.
Aaron Louis '24 and
Gianni Conte '24 each added an RBI as well. The 12 runs scored by the Irish was the second most they scored in a game all season.
Three days later, the two squads went back at it on the diamond. This time the game was much closer and even need extra innings to decide a winner. SHC pulled out the narrow 2-1 victory on the back of starting pitcher
Aaron Louis who pitched five innings of shutout ball, walking two and striking out five.
Louis' impressive week of games against Riordan was enough to be named West Coast Preps Male Athlete of the Week.
The Irish were able to beat the Crusaders despite Riordan out hitting them 6-5.
Barclay Ovalle '24 recorded two hits including a double, while Ruegg drove in one of the Irish's two runs.
Sacred Heart Cathedral will play next against Saint Ignatius in a rematch of the Bruce Mahoney game. The two sides will face off tomorrow afternoon with first pitch slated for 3:30pm at Marchbank.
