SHC Names Collin Theroux Head Boys Baseball Coach

Sacred Heart Cathedral is proud to announce the appointment of Collin Theroux as the new Head Boys Baseball Coach and Program Development. Theroux comes to SHC from the Detroit Tigers, where he served as the Assistant Field Coordinator and Complex Coordinator.

Theroux coordinated daily baseball operations and on-field activities for the Tigers that supported approximately 300 players and staff during Major and Minor League Spring Training Camp. He also managed Extended Spring Training, Florida Complex League Operations, rehabilitation assignments, instructional league and offseason development programs.

Before the Detroit Tigers, he was the Minor League Catching Coach for the Miami Marlins and was a Major League Bullpen Catcher for the New York Yankees for four years.

"I am truly honored to become the next Head Coach of SHC Baseball. My family and I couldn't be more excited to return to the Bay Area and join a community with such a rich history and bright future," Theroux said. "I am itching to get to work with our student-athletes; we will attack each day with pride and grit that will resonate with our proud community."

Theroux, who graduated from Junipero Serra High School in 2012, had an accomplished playing career. He was a 2015 JUCO All-American and 1st Team All-Region for San Joaquin Delta College, and was a College World Series starting catcher for Oklahoma State University in 2016. Drafted in the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft by the Oakland Athletics, Theroux played six years for the organization, reaching as high as the Triple-A level. He retired as a professional player in 2021 and began his coaching career the following year.

"Coach Theroux's success and experience in high school, college and the professional ranks will immensely benefit our storied SHC Baseball program. We are confident that the players in his care will be inspired to achieve success on and off the diamond, " Principal Dr. Gary Cannon said.

SHC President, Dr. Melinda Lawlor Skrade, said, "Coaching is everything in high school athletics. The Christian Brothers and the Daughters of Charity expect excellence in the formation of our students in every classroom and every program in preparation for leadership of their lives. We are blessed to have Coach Collin Theroux commit his God-given gifts and acquired skills to our student-athletes. This serves as yet another sign that Sacred Heart Cathedral aspires to be the premier high school athletic program in the Bay Area."
