Sacred Heart Cathedral boys basketball coach Andrew Kochevar, fresh off his first season at the helm of the Irish, was recognized for his impact and achievements at SHC.

Kochevar was named to the 2026 Most Influential High School Coach in Northern California list. Silver Waves Media, along with a committee of professionals, compiled a list of 88 individuals worthy of the honor. The list highlights coaches who "make a difference at the highest level with their hard work and success."

Silver Waves Media had glowing remarks about the Irish coach:

"Known for his leadership, player development, and commitment to excellence, Kochevar has guided student-athletes in one of Northern California's most competitive basketball environments.

His emphasis on accountability, teamwork, and growth both on and off the court has earned him the respect of players, coaches, and communities throughout the region. Kochevar's impact on the program has made him a highly regarded figure in Northern California basketball."

For Kochevar, the recognition reflects the foundation he and his staff are building at SHC while motivating them to continue finding ways to grow and improve.

"The recognition means a lot to my entire coaching staff and me," Kochevar said. "It reaffirms that the work we are doing is moving the needle for us in the local basketball community. Our goal has always been to help players maximize their potential both on and off the court. Being recognized for our efforts inspires me to show up every day and pursue excellence."

Kochevar, who was hired in May 2025, has had a standout first year with the Irish, winning a CCS Division IV Championship and leading the program back to the CIF State Division IV NorCal playoffs. His coaching philosophy, centered on three tenets and four core values, has quickly helped shape the Irish boys' basketball program.

"Showing up with intent, enthusiasm, and positivity every day has always been a part of my coaching philosophy," Kochevar said. "I credit the players for buying into our vision from day one. We have four C.A.R.E. values in our program: Character, Attitude, Respect, and Effort. Everything we do here at SHC, we do with CARE. The success will follow if you care about what you are doing and what you are trying to accomplish."

A strong first season under Kochevar has established a new culture for SHC basketball both on and off the court, positioning the program for future success.

"The standard has been set for the future of SHC boys' basketball," Kochevar said. "We will continually invest in our current and future student-athletes to ensure their experience in this program is memorable."
