The Sacred Heart Cathedral Cross Country teams punched their ticket to the State Finals in the Central Coast Section Championships on Saturday at Crystal Springs.
The girls team won the CCS Division III championship, led by
JoJo Gregg who took 4th place overall. The title was captured with outstanding performances by Gregg and veterans
Rell Gentzler '25,
Alex Martinez '25,
Sophia Nakakura '25, and
Veronica Panina '26 who all came from behind in the final mile to win the team's first CCS Championship in 25 years.
The Boys secured 2nd place and a trip to State, led by the 1-2 finish by Cal Poly SLO commit
Miles Cook '25 and
Cam Gregg '25 and strong running by
Sean Kummer '26,
David Kulas '26, and
Nate Porter '25.
This was the second consecutive year that both boys and the girls teams qualified for the California State Meet. They will travel the day after Thanksgiving to Fresno for a practice run before competing at Woodward Park in the CIF State Championship Meet on Saturday, November 30.
