SHC Class of 2028 Athletics Information

Welcome to Sacred Heart Cathedral, Class of 2028!  

Student-athletes and parents, please review this page for an introduction to SHC Athletics and for important information regarding your participation in athletics.  Topics covered:

1. Medical Clearance Requirements 

If you are considering participating in any sport, including summer or preseason workouts or tryouts, there are medical clearance requirements.
Parents/Guardians, please do the following:

  1. Register your student-athlete on Magnus Health after June 1; see SHC Sports Medicine web page for more info.
  2. Download and print the Pre-Participation Physical Exam Form from Magnus. ONLY use the SHC PPE Form.
  3. Schedule your student's physical exam during this time frame: June 1st to August 1st.
  4. Once completed by your physician (signed, dated, stamped, and box checked off indicating disposition/medical clearance status), upload the PPE form to Magnus.

2. Summer Workouts for Frosh 
Some sports hold summer workouts for you to get a jump on training. These workouts are not required and will not affect one's chances of making a team. Participation in workouts does not guarantee a spot on a roster, but does offer an opportunity to meet the coaches, train, have fun and meet schoolmates. 

PLEASE NOTE:  In order to participate, you must:
A) Sign up for your sport's workout/tryouts roster - Summer Workouts Sign-Up Form
B) Complete medical clearance requirements.

Cross Country 

  • Summer Workouts: Monday/Wednesday afternoons, Friday mornings. At off-campus locations. 
  • Dates: June 10-July 26.
  • Questions: Contact Head Coach Andy Chan at achan@shcp.edu.
  • Tryouts begin Monday, August 12, 2024 at 3:30pm at Kezar Stadium and will continue thereafter until rosters are set. Please reach out to Coach Chan for the full week tryout's schedule. 


Flag Football 

  • Summer Workouts: Tuesday/Thursdays at SHC Practice Field at 5pm
  • Dates: June 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27; July 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25.  
  • Questions: Contact Head Coach Kristin Ray at kray@shcp.edu.  
  • Fall Tryouts begin on Wednesday, August 14.  


Football

  • Summer Workouts: Mon/Wed/Fri at SHC Practice Field from 4:00 to 6:30pm. 
  • Dates: June 10, 12, 14, 17 (not June 19), 21, 24, 26, 28; July 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26.  
  • Questions: Contact JV Head Coach Christon Rance at crance@shcp.edu.  
  • Fall Tryouts  begin Monday, August 5, 2024. This includes the CCS approved acclimatization period.


Girls Golf 

  • Summer Workouts: Thursdays at 2pm; Location - Presidio Golf Course 
  • Dates: June 13, 20, 27; July 11, 18.  Additional dates may be added.

  • Fall Tryouts begin Monday, August 12, 2024. 


Girls Tennis 

  • Summer Open Courts: 3:30-5:30pm at San Francisco State University Tennis Courts
  • Dates: June 18, 19, 20, 25, June 26, 27; July 1, 2, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26. 
  • NOTE: June 26 and 27 will be located at Westlake Park, 145 Lake Merced Blvd, Daly City.

  • Fall Tryouts begin Monday, August 12, 2024.


Girls Volleyball 

  • Summer Workouts: Mondays/Wednesdays (one Friday) 5pm to 7pm in SHC Pavilion. 
  • Dates: June 10, 12, 17, (NOT June 19), 24, 26; July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24.
  • Questions: Contact Head Coach Symone Mackiewicz at smackiewicz@shcp.edu.
  • Fall Tryouts begin Monday, August 12, 2024 at 5:00pm at the SHC Pavilion and will continue thereafter until rosters are set. 


Wrestling 

  • Summer Workouts: Open Mats in SHC Gym 3:30pm-5:30pm.  
  • Days/Dates: Tu/Th June 18, 20; M/W June 24, 26; M/W July 8, 10.  
  • Additional Open Mats will take place in the fall after school begins.   
  • Winter Sport Tryouts begin Monday, November 4, 2024.


Girls Basketball 

  • Summer Workouts: Tuesday/Thursdays 3pm-5pm in SHC Gym/Pavilion. 
  • Dates: June 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27; July 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25.

  • Winter Sport Tryouts begin Monday, November 4, 2024.


Girls Soccer 

  • Summer Workouts: Thursdays on SHC Practice Field. 7pm-8:30pm. 
  • Dates: June 13, 20, 27; July 11, 18.
  • Reminder to have a valid PPE on file.  Please join the SHC Girls Soccer Schoology group if possible. Access code: P9GZP-DKPPS.

Boys Soccer

  • Summer Workouts: Friday evenings 6pm-8pm on the SHC Practice Field.

To be eligible to participate:

  1. Register for your sport's workout/tryout roster.
  2. Complete medical clearance requirements after June 1 and prior to first open field/court/workout or tryout date. 

Spring Season Parameters (January-May)
February 3: Spring sports start date
April 14-21: Easter Holiday (Spring sports still practice)
April 22: Classes resume after Easter Holiday
May 20-22: Second Semester Final Exams/Assessments (no sports)
May 22: Last Day of Second Semester


4. Tryout Information and Policies

  1. All students are permitted to try out for a sport, provided that they are academically eligible, have registered on Magnus and uploaded a PPE form, and have signed up for the tryout roster. 
  2. If a student is currently playing on a team when tryouts for the next season's sports begin, that student will be allowed to try out after the current season is over.
  3. If a student is cut from one sport's tryouts, that student may try out for another team during that same season, provided they have communicated with the second sport's coach and attend the tryout the following day. 
  4. If a student quits a team, the student will not be allowed to try out or work out with any other sport until the previous team's season is completed.

IMPORTANT:  If you make a sports team, there is a mandatory meeting for all student athletes with at least one parent/guardian:

  • Winter Sports Parent Mtg ~ Thursday, November 21 ~ 6:30pm 
  • Spring Sports Parent Mtg ~ Thursday, February 20 ~ 6:30pm

Tryouts for fall sports begin on the dates listed below and continue daily thereafter until final cuts are made and final rosters are determined.

6. Attendance Requirements 

  1. Participation on a high school team, at any level (Frosh, JV, Varsity), requires 5 to 6 days/week commitment which includes practices and competitions Monday through Saturday.  Student-athletes are required to attend all practices and competitions during their season of sport, even during school holidays (including National Holidays, Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break, and Spring Break).  
  2. Student-athletes/families should not schedule family vacations, school trips, or school retreats during their season of sport. 
  3. Academic commitments (classes, academic program meetings, academic program events, counseling sessions, etc.) take precedence over athletic team practices or athletic team meetings.  Excused absences from academic commitments may be granted for school athletic competitions. Student-athletes are expected to communicate these conflicts in advance. 
  4. Please review the full policy in the SHC Athletics Handbook.
    • NOTE: Partial Day Absences: Students must be present in at least two school class periods in order to participate in after school games or practices. Exceptions to this policy may be requested through the Dean's Office.
