Announcements and Important Events
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory announced today that Barry McLaughlin will be the new head football coach beginning in 2017-18.
McLaughlin has coached high school football since 2003, and has served a variety of roles at SHC since joining the staff in 2006. He has served as JV defensive coordinator, varsity defensive and offensive line coach and varsity defensive coordinator in his tenure at SHC, guiding a number of players to go on to play in college and the professional ranks.
McLaughlin is a Bay Area native and alumnus of Archbishop Riordan High School (1997), where he earned five letters as a three-sport varsity student-athlete. He played two years of football at CCSF and went on to earn a BA in Physical Education from Utah State University.
“I am honored and excited for this opportunity to be the head football coach at Sacred Heart Cathedral,” McLaughlin said. “My dad's an alum, my grandfather is an alum as well as many uncles and cousins. San Francisco football has been a huge part of my life - 20 total years between playing and coaching at Riordan, playing at CCSF and coaching here at SHC. I am looking forward to the challenges the WCAL presents and to developing young men on and off the field. Go Irish!”
McLaughlin takes over 2-8 team from 2016 that will return seven All-WCAL players, including two first-teamers. He is also an Instructor of Science at SHC.
