Announcements and Important Events
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory announced Friday that Sean MacKay will be the new head varsity boys basketball coach beginning in 2016-17.
For the past 3 years, MacKay has been the men’s assistant coach at San Jose City College. From 2008-2013, he was the head coach at San Leandro High School, where his teams were perennial HAAL, NCS and NorCal title contenders. He was named NorCal Preps Boys Basketball Coach of the Year in 2013 and he has coached over 100 high school athletes who have gone on to play in college and in the professional ranks.
MacKay is a graduate of St. Francis High School (1995) where he played basketball for the Lancers. He attended the University of San Francisco where he received his BS in Business Administration and he currently runs a shipping business in Oakland.
“I am truly honored to be selected as the Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Sacred Heart Cathedral,” MacKay said. “The school has a rich tradition and a great location in the heart of San Francisco. The opportunity to be a head coach in arguably the toughest league in the state does not happen very often. I look forward to developing the young men of the program, and exceeding expectations both on and off the court. Go Fightin’ Irish!”
MacKay takes over a Division III CCS runner-up and Northern California semifinalist team that graduated only one player.
